About This Course

Get introduced to vocabulary and concepts commonly used in discussions around social change, such as youth unemployment. Learn how to articulate your own ideas for social change with the necessary language. The Starbucks Upstanders campaign along with other Starbucks videos are featured as key examples.

This course will take you approximately 4 hours to complete.

Learners who complete this course will earn a digital certificate of completion.

Emilia Gracia is a Senior Global Educator at Arizona State University, Global Launch, where she teaches English to international students, designs online language courses for diverse stakeholders, and trains other professionals in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Emilia has been in the field of foreign language instruction since 2009, and holds two master's degrees: a Master's in Teaching Spanish and a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. She taught English as a Foreign Language at universities in the Dominican Republic and Ecuador, as well as teacher training in Indonesia. Emilia is the author of two popular MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) on Coursera: Chinese for Spanish Speakers and Teach English Now, Teaching Language Online. She has advanced language proficiency in English and Spanish and enjoys learning new languages. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics and her research interests are Computer-Assisted Language Learning, Educational Technology, and Interlanguage Pragmatics. Emilia aspires to create highly accessible digital learning environments and opportunities for diverse populations of learners.
